MRnet is expanding to three new organizations in Manitoba to provide to them
universal, ubiquitous and affordable access to high-speed research and
education networks. This expansion was funded by CANARIE through their
infrastructure expansion funding program.
The new connections are:
1. University College of the North (UCN) - This will connect campuses in
Thompson and The Pas via a 15-year leased wavelength capable of 10-Gbps.
This will be done in two phases: Winnipeg to Thompson (May 2010), then
Thompson to The Pas (First half of 2011).
2. Assiniboine Community College (ACC) -Their campus is connected through
Brandon University via 15-year dark fibre IRU.
3. Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) - Their campus in Winnipeg is
connected via 15-year dark fibre IRU to the University of Manitoba.
These new facilities finalize the connection of all post secondary
institutions to MRnet with a minimum speed of 1Gb/sec. This levels the
playing field and researchers throughout the provincial universities now
enjoy the same level of access to allow them to use MRnet and CANARIE in
support of their research.
