Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface (CUSB) General Overview

The Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface (CUSB) is Manitoba’s French-language university. It offers general and honours university degree programs as well as professional and technical training. The Collège is a member of the Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS) which includes eleven universities and colleges in Canada that collectively offer more than 110 French-language programs in a wide variety of healthcare disciplines. CNFS seeks to improve healthcare services in francophone minority communities throughout Canada through post-secondary training in French for primary healthcare professionals, and through research on issues related to healthcare in Francophone communities.

There are three CNFS-supported programs currently offered at CUSB: a healthcare aide certificate, a diploma in nursing and a Bachelor of Social Work. Nursing students may also complete a fourth year in the program and receive a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Ottawa upon recommendation from CUSB. This fourth year is offered entirely by videoconference, utilizing the high speed optical network connection provided through MRnet, with the clinical component coordinated by CUSB teaching staff. This unique partnership permits simultaneous instruction to take place in Ottawa and Winnipeg which allows the organizations to share resources in a cost effective manner. This ensures that students receive the best possible course of study and encourages them to remain in Manitoba to pursue employment.
