Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) General Overview

As CMU looks to the future, and the contribution it expects to make to the national research agenda, it is clear that connection to MRnet is imperative to its continued growth and connectedness to other research centres locally and globally.

Several projects currently underway will benefit from the connection to this high speed network. These include research in digital imaging that requires access to hundreds of high resolution images of primary documents and artifacts, each requiring 100-MByte images which can be manipulated in various ways; and projects in mathematics, which require downloading
and transfer of significant quantities of data.

In addition, it will be extremely beneficial as a small institution to have the capacity to link researchers through the use
of video conferencing. The addition of this option will heighten the capacity of the institution to engage in strategic collaborative research and other educational endeavours with sister institutions, research institutes and non-governmental organizations across the country and in various parts of the world in which CMU is currently engaged (South Africa, Guatemala, Tuebingen, Germany). Such collaborative endeavour is critical to the growth of the research agenda at CMU, given the small number of faculty in many of its disciplines and departments.
